As We Boldly March into 2024.

The final blog of 2023. What a year it’s been! We’ve explored how to get your novels started; whether to go the self or traditional publishing route; how not to get hung up on word count; the importance of editing; how to craft captivating book blurbs, and how to find the perfect literary agent for your book. I hope I’ve shed some light, and eased some anxieties by sharing my experiences.

A hand holding a sparkler.

As we tuck another year into the record books, it’s a good time for reflection. For writers, this year brought us both successes and setbacks. Some of you may have finished our first drafts; others may have signed with an agent; and a few might have published for the first time. However, deadlines were likely missed and word counts fell short. Don’t be too hard on yourself - writing is a process that rarely goes according to plan. God’s inside joke. The important thing is that we keep writing!

So, as we march boldly into 2024, realize one must walk before they can sprint, and the track to your writing goals is an obstacle course. Find the joy in learning as you go. Never be afraid to rewrite or overhaul the manuscript if that’s what the story warrants. View every critique, edit or rewrite as an opportunity to improve your skills, rather than a setback. Trust the process, and have fun with your writing! If you maintain a growth mindset and continue showing up to write every day, you will reach your writing goals for the new year!

Welcome 2024! I’ll be expanding my blog topics, so stay tuned and be sure to sign up for notifications.
